Iván La Spada

yup, that's… me…

I'm Iván. Designer, Independiente fan, tech nerd, pro-midnight and anti-morning. At 9 years old I was already using Fraps and Sony Vegas to record and edit my YouTube videos. I've loved computers and internet culture since before I knew that had a name. If someone had to define me in references: The Walking Dead, Minecraft, Messi, Breaking Bad and PlayStation 2.

Every memory generates a vibe that translates into a color palette, a smell, a mix of sound and image I can't ignore. That's why design isn't something I do, it's something that happens to me. It's in the way I process what I live, in the way I remember places, in the way I listen to music.

Creative manifesto

I grew up in an era when screens promised worlds. Video games didn't try to be photorealistic, they tried to be memorable. Interfaces had color, shape, personality. At some point that got lost, and design chose safety over being memorable.

I don't believe in neutral design. I believe in design that takes a stand, that has a reference, a history, a point of view. I work at the intersection of graphic, digital and three-dimensional because the most honest visual answer almost always lives there, in the middle, where disciplines meet.

The imperfect interests me more than the polished. A texture, an unexpected typographic decision, a color that shouldn't work but does. That's what I look for in every project: that when someone sees it, they feel there was a real person behind it making real decisions.
